“When I returned to Rome from Gaul and Spain, the Senate decreed that an altar should be consecrated to the Augustan Peace in Campo Marzio and ordered that the magistrates, priests and vestal virgins, should celebrate an annual sacrifice”
Are you looking for an extraordinary and multi-sensory experience? Are you ready to live the personification of Rome?
After the great success of the first three months of programming, the most immersive exhibition ever held in Rome continues to leave you speechless.
The past of ancient Rome comes to life on the marble of Ara Pacis monument. A suggestive immersion in the enchanting atmosphere of the sacred rites and the era of mechanisms of power, in the troubled history of the monument.
The Ara as it was is the first development project in augmented and virtual reality of one of the most important masterpieces of Roman art. The journey becomes even more immersive and involving combining virtual reality and augmented with real and reconstructed characters thanks to the combination of computer graphics, live filming and reconstructions in 3d.
Observing from various angles and plastic models, you will see populate them with characters intent on celebrating the sacrifice (in the tradition of the time, in fact, the entrails of the sacrificed victim, after being read and interpreted, were offerings to the gods), all the imperial family will come alive and tells you about themselves and in all this tales you will be accompanied by sounds and voices that will transform your experience in something magical.
Few monuments have managed to transmit, as does the Ara Pacis, history, beliefs, ideals and ambitions of an entire era: the famous golden age of the city of Rome. Starting from the reliefs depicting the sacrifice of Aeneas, to those with the birth of Romulus and Remus, or the representation of Tellus, the mother goddess who ruled fertility of all living. You will relive and see again the characters, gestures, gods and animals that will transport you to the origins of Rome and the family of Augustus.
Rich in symbols is also the splendid floral frieze made up of a multitude of plants that arise from tufts of acanthus, symbol of immortality. A tidy, luxuriant vegetation, inhabited by animals and insects, it is reconstructed as did the ancient Romans, who in this lush garden were invited to forget the horrors of war.
At the end of the path, wth your body now turned towards the mausoleum, among augures, the sergeants, the priests, will appear Augustus followed by his family. The solemn procession accompanies the emperor, surrounds and protects him while performing the sacred gesture. Here we find not the mere representation of a rite of State, but the image of the present and the future of Rome living through its institutions, Augustus and his family, including children, presented together for the first time in history on a public monument.
What are you waiting for? The journey in the ancient Eternal City is waiting for you.
This innovative and unique experience takes place every Friday and Saturday night from 20 to 24.
